About the Owners

  • Montfort Manor is set in the heart of Central Gippsland, Victoria, an easy 150kn drive east of Melbourne. The luxury retreat is situated on 7.5 acres of superbly landscaped gardens 4km from Traralgon’s CBD. The moment you drive into the property, the Manor house, constructed of Mt Gambier limestone, creates an impression of grandeur, overlooking the tree-lined driveway, lake, and manicured garden.
  • Stepping inside the Manor is a grand staircase reminiscent of the movie classic; Gone with the Wind, spilling from the upper floors into the lofty light-filled entrance; the beyond, through vast windows, two sparkling blue swimming pools beckon …
  • In April 2000, David and Melinda Wilson purchased an unfinished property and went about realising their dream of providing unique luxury style accommodation, something that was previously not offered in the area. The dream was achieved in December 2003 when Montfort Manor opened with two delightful guest rooms modelled on similar properties they had stayed at on extended overseas holidays.
  • In February 2007 after extensive renovations, the capacity was doubled and the property was transformed into a majestic Bed and Breakfast style retreat, comprising four luxury rooms. In 2016 an additional room was added to cope with the demand.
  • The grounds are complemented by walking paths that surround the shimmering lake, a state-of-the-art multi-use tennis court including a hitting wall, and two pools, one a lap lane.
  • Living onsite David and Melinda have been able to provide a high degree of personal contact with their guests. Over the years they have been privileged to share their home with distinguished guests such as the Premier of Victoria, Governor of Victoria, and the Prime Minister of Australia.
  • December 2020 David and Melinda celebrated 17 years of owning and operating their multi-award-winning Bed and Breakfast.
  • New horizons – as of March 2021 Montfort Manor will only operate as a Luxury Retreat offering the entire property for your personal use sleeping up to 16 in 7 guest suites.

Montfort Manor is owned and operated by David and Melinda Wilson and they look forward to welcoming you to enjoy their piece of paradise.

  • Did you know the name Montfort has been in Melinda’s family for generations? It was the name of her paternal grandmother’s farm near Hamilton in Tasmania, in the 1800s. After she moved to Morwell and purchased land with her husband a grazier in the Morwell area in the early 1900s, the new diary/beef farm which Melinda’s father operated from the late 1950s was called Montfort. (Although this farm has now been sold the newly opened bike/walking track between Morwell and Traralgon meanders through parts of the original farm and access to this track is right on Montfort Manor’s doorsteps).
